More than skin deep
We particularly appreciated the chilled glovebox which we loaded up with cold water for our long drive. Another neat feature is the Bose audio system's ability to pause and store up to 20 minutes of live radio—great if you have to run an errand and don't want to miss your favourite rock star being interviewed, or the last few minutes of the playoffs. The large pop-up Nav screen is easy to see even in bright light, and features a back-up camera.

The SRX has its sights set on knocking the long-reigning segment-leader Lexus RX 350 off its perch. It certainly handles better and delivers much better feedback through the steering wheel. The brakes could use some improvement though; both my driving partner and I found the pedal travel a little long for comfort, especially on the mountain roads.

Available in Canadian showrooms by this August, the 2012 Cadillac SRX has a base price of $42,000.
