The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, presented the 2012 ecoENERGY for Vehicles Awards to nine different companies for ten vehicle classes.

“I would like to congratulate these manufacturers on their outstanding work in producing the most fuel-efficient vehicles available in Canada today,” said Minister Oliver. “We will continue to work with the industry to help Canadians choose the most fuel-efficient vehicle for their everyday needs.”

The awards are managed through Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY Efficiency for Vehicles program, which provides decision-making tools for buying and operating consumer and fleet vehicles to reduce fuel consumption.This program is part of the ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiatives, which are investing $195 million over five years to maintain the Government of Canada’s momentum to improve energy use in Canada — at home, at work and on the road.

  • Two-seater car: smart fortwo (co-recipient)
  • Subcompact car: Mitsubishi i-MiEV
  • Compact car: Chevrolet Volt
  • Mid-size car: Nissan LEAFTM
  • Full-size car: Hyundai Sonata
  • Station wagon: Toyota Prius V
  • Pickup truck: Toyota Tacoma
  • Special purpose vehicle: Ford Escape Hybrid
  • Minivan: Mazda5
  • Large van: Ford Transit Connect Van
