The unstoppable Ford F-Series will offer Super Duty buyers a little extra somethin’ when it debuts for 2013: its first-ever Platinum edition, complete with a truck-specific version of SYNC with MyFord Touch. Also standard will be navigation, rear-view camera, remote start, power-telescoping mirrors and power-adjustable pedals.
The Platinum light-duty series debuted in 2009; Ford’s first high-end luxury truck was the 2000 Harley-Davidson F-150. A King Ranch Super Duty followed in 2003 and a Harley-Davidson Super Duty in 2004. Ford currently offers Lariat and King Ranch editions to its Super Duty customers.
The Super Duty Platinum edition is available on F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups with a Ford-built 6.7-litre Power Stroke diesel or a 6.2-litre V8 gas engine.
The Platinum grille features a satin chrome surround and perforated mesh inside, monochromatic bumpers and chrome tow hooks. Door handles, mirror caps, running boards and exhaust tips are all chrome, as are the letters spelling out “Platinum” on the boxsides; the tailgate gets a satin chrome appliqué. Twenty-inch polished-aluminum wheels and painted black inserts round out the exterior bling.
Inside, unique woodgrain appliqués abound, and the dash gets a new central storage bin with plug-ins for your electronics.
The Platinum will come in Ruby Red, Kodiak Brown, Tuxedo Black, Ingot Silver and White Platinum exterior paint, with a choice of Pecan or Midnight Black interiors.
