The 2nd generation of Ford’s popular midsize sedan has just been officially presented to the media, with styling inspired from the Ford Evos Concept that made its appearance last summer at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

The Fusion, or Mondeo for the European market, is Ford’s newest global car. Customers will be able to choose between many powerplants, including turbocharged 1.6L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines, a naturally-aspirated four-cylinder, a hybrid unit with a 2.0L gas engine (downsized from the previous-gen’s 2.5L) and a plug-in hybrid setup. All-wheel drive as well as six-speed manual and automatic transmissions will also be offered.

The Hybrid model gets a lithium-ion battery pack, replacing the old model’s nickel-metal hydride batteries and raising the car’s electric-only top speed from 75 to 99 km/h, while the 1.6L engine will include a start-stop system. There will be no more V6 engines available in the Fusion.

The 2013 Ford Fusion, set to be on sale later this year, will feature gobs of techno goodies such as a lane-keeping system, adaptive cruise control, active park assist, a blind-spot monitor and an improved version of the MyFord Touch infotainment system.
