Catering to the world
The most striking elements of the interior are the round “X” vents, and the centrally mounted multifunction screen. Once again, there is a real sense of Mercedes quality in the B-Class, tying it into the family as opposed to being an in-betweener. In Canada, the finely sculpted seats will be clad in ARTICO Leatherette. Leather will be available.

The number of potential options for our 2013 B-Class is long, however, there are a few that I think should make their way into our market. The first is the Easy-Vario-Plus seating system which includes the second-row 60/40-split bench to move fore and aft, a two-level trunk load floor and a flat-folding front passenger seat.

The new B-Class is loaded with the latest safety gadgets, some of which were, until now, reserved for higher-end Benzes. Collision Prevention Assist is the big one and should be standard when the car arrives. Through a series of sensors and radar, the car constantly monitors its surroundings and will inform the driver of an impending collision by using visual and audible signals. Through adaptive braking assists, it will even increase braking power if it doesn't like what the driver is doing.

There are so many elements of interest in this car that it's difficult to touch on all of them, especially given the fact that Canadian specs have not yet been determined. What is certain is that the new 2013 Mercedes-Benz B-Class is a vastly improved car over the one it replaces. It will no longer be considered “the other Mercedes,” it's now a real Mercedes.

Sales are still quite good in Canada, with year-over-year increases in the last two months 2,255 (2,003) or roughly 12% more units delivered. The new car will surely be a success thanks to its new assertive styling and drive.

The 2013 B-Class is expected to hit showrooms by the fourth quarter of 2012. Pricing will be announced closer to the launch. My guess is that it will closely mimic the $31k base price of the current 2011.
