Pros: The 2014 Nissan Frontier is a sporty-looking midsize pickup truck with pleasant driving dynamics, a sturdy cargo box, and an available V6 engine with great towing and hauling capacities. In PRO-4X trim, it's also a competent off-roader.

Cons: The Frontier is now getting pretty old, especially inside where refinement is lacking. There is no regular cab on the menu, and the largest available cargo box is barely 6 feet long. Rear-seat accommodations don't match those in the Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline.

2014 Nissan Frontier Price: The lineup consists of six trim levels. They are:
  • King Cab S - $20,998
  • King Cab SV - $23,898
  • King Cab PRO-4X - $29,998
  • Double Cab SV - $27,748
  • Double Cab PRO-4X - $35,148
  • Double Cab SL $37,598
PRO-4X models stand out with high-performance Bilstein off-road shocks, skid plates, fog lights, and heated seats in exclusive trim, among other things.

2014 Nissan Frontier Fuel Economy: EnerGuide lists the 2014 Nissan Frontier at 10.8-14.1L/100km in the city and 8.6-9.5L/100km on the highway. It all depends on the configuration, engine, transmission, and drivetrain.

Improvements and Changes: The 2014 Nissan Frontier's standard and optional equipment has been lightly updated to increase comfort and value. Of note, the new NissanConnect interface and apps (with smartphone integration) maximize the functionality of the available navigation system.

2014 Nissan Frontier Powertrain: Two engines can be specified with this truck. The base 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine produces 152 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, while the 4.0L V6 generates 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. The former teams up with a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission, while the latter offers a 6-speed manual or the same 5-speed automatic. Incidentally, the 4-wheel drive system is exclusive to V6 models.

Capacities: A properly equipped 2014 Nissan Frontier can tow up to 1,588 kg (3,500 lbs) with the 4-cylinder engine, and up to 2,948 kg (6,500 lbs) with the beefier V6.

Safety: The 2014 Nissan Frontier comes with six airbags. The automaker also offers active front headrests, ABS, as well as stability and traction control. A backup camera, hill descent control, and hill start assist are available to boost driver confidence, especially off the beaten paths.

Comparing the 2014 Nissan Frontier: In addition to the aforementioned Toyota Tacoma and Honda Ridgeline, the 2014 Nissan Frontier must keep an eye on the all-new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which are returning to the GM family after a couple of years of absence.
