Though it be little…

Pros: The BMW 2 Series replaces the no-longer-available-in-North-America 1 Series lineup, and it fills those shoes nicely offering a sporty personality and great styling.

Cons: There is no diesel variant of the 2 Series available, and the back seat can be cramped for occupants on long journeys.

2015 BMW 2 Series Price and Fuel Economy: There are two body styles and four versions of the BMW 2 Series to choose from.

  • 2015 BMW 228i Coupe $36,000 -- Auto: 7.2L/100km; Manual: 7.6L/100km
  • 2015 BMW 228i xDrive Coupe $39,750 -- Auto: 8.7L/100km
  • 2015 BMW 228i xDrive Cabriolet $45,200 -- Auto: 9.1L/100km
  • 2015 BMW M235i Coupe $45,00 -- Auto: 10.2L/100km; Manual: 10.4L/100km

Powertrain: The BMW 228i is available as a coupe (with or without xDrive) and a cabriolet. The 228i is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L inline-4 mill that produces 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Opt for the M version (M235i) and you’ll see that engine size increase to a 3.0L inline-6 TwinPower turbocharged unit that’ll give you 322 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.

Unless you opt for an xDrive version, power is sent to the real wheels of each BMW 2 Series model, and transmission choices reside in an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters or a 6-speed manual.

Changes and Improvements: New for the 2015 BMW 2 Series is an available Track Handling Package (paired with the 228i Coupe model). The Track Handling Package includes Adaptive M Suspension, unique 18” light-alloy wheels, BMW Variable Sport Steering, and M Sport Brakes with dark-blue calipers with an M logo.

The 2 Series is also the first BMW to feature 4G LTE connectivity for the 2015 model year.

Cargo Capacity: Both the M235i and 228i coupe models feature 390 litres of trunk space. While the cabriolet versions of each drops that space to 334 litres. The 2 Series also offers seating for four across the lineup.

Safety: The BMW 2 Series is equipped with all manner of safety equipment and standard airbags, as well as seamless roll-over protection in the cabriolet versions that have special roll-over sensors that activate two roll bars to extend in fractions of a second in case of a crash, which is also coupled with a belt tensioner system to keep all passengers safely in place.

Comparing the 2015 BMW 2 Series: Audi A3/A3 Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz CLA Class, Lexus CT200h, Acura ILX.
