The Honda we love with better gas mileage

Pros: It’s still very much the Honda Accord we fell in love with a few short years ago (the one that was awarded our 2013 Auto123.com Midsize Car of the Year), only now it’s got a hybrid engine that means better fuel mileage which is always more attractive.

Cons: The introduction of the hybrid engine means the price is just a tad high, however, thanks to incentives in Quebec and Ontario, there’s a good chance you’re still going to give it a gander the next time you stop by Honda. There’s also the brand new Toyota Camry Hybrid nipping at its heels…

2015 Honda Accord Hybrid Price and Fuel Economy: For 2015, Honda is offering two versions of their Accord Hybrid model. Below you’ll find each trim along with its price (all base MSRP) and fuel efficiency numbers:

  • Honda Accord Hybrid, $31,751; 4.7L/100km (city), 5.3L/100km (hwy), 5.0L/100km (combined).
  • Honda Accord Hybrid TOURING, $37,851; 4.7L/100km (city), 5.3L/100km (hwy), 5.0L/100km (combined).

Changes and Improvements: Since its redesign in 2013, the ninth generation, 2014MY Honda Accord Hybrid remains unchanged for 2015.

Powertrain: There is one engine available for both Honda Accord Hybrid models; a 2.0L Atkinson cycle i-VTEC 4-cyl coupled with a 1.3kWh HEV battery for a combined total horsepower output of 196 (141 comes from the engine alone), and 122 lb-ft of torque. Honda’s fabulous drive-by-wire throttle is present in both models, as is Honda’s E-CVT transmission.

Three drive modes are available: EV, Hybrid, Engine and can be manipulated by the driver or change according to driving conditions and style.

All power is sent to the front wheels.

Cargo Capacity: Trunk space in the two Accord Hybrid models is almost identical at 359.6L for the standard Hybrid and 348.2L for the TOURING edition.

Safety: All 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid models are equipped with all manner of airbags, as well as active safety features like ABS, Brake Assist, EBD, Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, Vehicle Stability Assist, etc.

Comparing the 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid: Ford Fusion Energi, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Volkswagen Passat TDI.
