General Motors of Canada recently announced that select 2016 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado CrewCab 4WD models will be available with eAssist starting this spring.
What’s eAssist? It’s a light electrification system that builds on the advanced technologies of the 5.3L V8 engine to reduce fuel consumption by approximately 1.5L/100km. It includes a 0.45kWh lithium-ion battery and adds only about 100 lbs to the vehicle’s curb weight.
Efficiency is further improved through Stop/Start capability, electric power boost, regenerative braking, and various aero enhancements.
Towing and payload capacities are unaffected, GM insists.
