Nissan today launched the new 2016 LEAF in the U.S. with the promise of 172 kilometres of all-electric range – a 27% improvement over the outgoing model – thanks to a higher-capacity 30kWh battery (standard on SV and SL models).

Also, look for an enhanced IT system that is more user-friendly and gives drivers greater vehicle connectivity.

All 2016 LEAF models feature an 80kW AC synchronous motor that generates 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. And remember, this car has no tailpipes and produces zero emissions.

Other highlights for 2016 include NissanConnect with Bluetooth connectivity, a hands-free text messaging assistant, plus an available 7” touchscreen with navigation and voice command. Charging screen information is now automatically updated every time the ignition is turned on and with every 20 kilometres of driving.

Details for the Canadian market have yet to be announced, although they should come soon enough. We’ll keep you posted.
