Porsche Canada has finally introduced the new 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S, which will go on sale in the 3rd quarter of 2016 starting at $63,900 and $78,000, respectively. By the way, those will be the official names for the Boxster models from now on — a tribute to the legendary Porsche 718 race car that enjoyed plenty of success in 1957 and the following years.

Up until today we only had a pair of minimalistic sketches to whet our appetite. The pictures you see here show the real thing.

More powerful and more fuel-efficient than the outgoing generation, the new 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster features a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine rated at 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. With the available PDK transmission and Sport Chrono package, acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 4.7 seconds and fuel consumption amounts to just 6.9L/100km according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Canadian city/highway ratings have yet to be announced, but expect them to be higher.

Meanwhile, the 2017 Porsche 718 Boxster S can reach 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds thanks to a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces 350 hp. This one burns 7.3L/100km according to the NEDC.

In terms of styling, numerous changes were made to the current Boxster, starting with much larger air intakes, new, independently styled wings and side sills, newly designed bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights (LED headlights are now optional), new 19” wheels (718 Boxster S), a revised rear body, and more.

Other highlights include an improved cockpit featuring Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with mobile phone preparation, audio interfaces, voice control, and the Sound Package Plus with 110 watts of audio power.
