The BMW 4 Series, a favourite of lovers of luxury coupes around the world, is sure to maintain its hold on its fans with a variety of changes and additions for 2018. The German automaker is being mindful of sticking with its winning formula, while adding doses of richness and character to the car.
In terms of styling, immediately notable are the remodeled front and rear ends, including new hexagonal LED headlights (with adaptive lights as an option), a larger air intake featuring distinctive bars and new LED taillights. Consumers can also add options like redesigned alloy wheels and choose from two new colours for the body (Snapper Rocks Blue Metallic, or turquoise, and Sunset Orange).
The interior is fitted with the next-generation (6.0) iDrive infotainment system, wireless recharging for smartphones and WiFi access. Also new are the finishes on the air vents, command panels on the doors and the integral seatbelt guides, as well as a high-gloss finish on the cover panel of the central console and double stitching on the instrument panel. Want more? There’s a redesigned sport steering wheel (for the 430i only), and three new options for the leather upholstery: Midnight Blue Dakota, Cognac Dakota (brown) and Ivory White Dakota.
BMW’s strategy is to give buyers a much larger number of choices to allow them to personalize their 4 Series car.
BMW did not neglect the mechanics either: The suspension has been firmed up for 2018 (except for the cabriolet) and the steering has been fine-tuned. The two available gasoline engines remain the same, however. Buyers can choose between the 248-hp engine of the 430i or the 320-hp version of the 440i. In the case of the coupé, the latter engine is the only one available that allows for replacing the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with a 6-speed manual (which does not entail any extra cost).
The 2018 BMW 4 Series lineup of models will be available in the Canadian market as of this spring, and prices have been announced:
