According to sources close to the project, Porsche has given the green light to the development of the Cayenne, coupe version. What’s more, the new variant should be ready soon, by fall of 2019.
While the model will officially be designated as coupe, it won’t fit a lot of people’s preconception of that vehicle type. For one thing, the model will retain its four doors; but like the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, the back end will get a more rounded silhouette and the rear fenestration will be redrawn.
In front the vehicle will be largely the same, except for a new bumper.
Porsche will market the version as a performance-focused variant. According to the Autocar website, buyers will have the choice between a twin-turbo V6 or a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 delivering 550 hp.
This is probably a wise approach, especially when the Cayenne coupe is likely to offer limited cargo space like its main rivals.
For this model, we’re thinking the styling may be what makes or breaks it.
