Five hours into the race, the Peugeots are still leading, with two cars in the top 3, #9 Peugeot 908 HDI FAP of Montagny, Zonta and Klien leading the #3 Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R10 of Luhr, Premat and Rockenfeller and the #7 Peugeot of Gené, Minassian and Villeneuve.
Peugeot have had a fair share of incidents so far. The #8 car of Sarrazin, Lamy and Villeneuve was in the pits for 20 minutes for repairs to the gearbox, while the #9 car of Montagny, Zonta and Klien was black flagged into the pits because of an electrical problem affecting the headlights.
Behind the diesel cars, which are well clear in the top 5 positions, the fight between the petrol cars is still very intense between the Pescarolo, Dome and Courage-ORECA cars. The leading LM P2 car is the #31 Team Essex, Porsche RS Spyder of Nielsen, Elgaard and Maassen.
In LM GT1 #50 Larbre Competition, Saleen S7R of Bouchut, Bornhauser and Smet lost a lot of places in the ranking following trouble with a wheel coming off. The Corvettes and Aston Martins are in a very close fight at the head of the LM GT1 class.
In LM GT2 the crash between the Porsches of the IMSA Performance Matmut and Flying Lizard teams had a big effect on the picture, but Porsche are still hoping for the third model 911 GT3 RSR to be able to keep running close to the first placed car in the category, the #82 Risi Competizione, Ferrari F430 GT of Salo, Melo and Bruni.
