According to Beth Lowery, GM's Vice-President of Environment, Energy and Safety policy, fuel cells and the electrification of vehicles have the potential to literally change the way the world drives. A first meaningful market test of fuel cell vehicles will soon be conducted as part of the American automaker's comprehensive deployment plan, dubbed "Project Driveway".

A variety of drivers in different driving environments will operate these vehicles in three geographic areas where hydrogen refueling is currently feasible: California, the New York metropolitan area, and Washington, DC. Said vehicles will be the new zero-emission Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell built at GM's Canadian engineering center. They represent the world's largest fuel-cell vehicle fleet.

In order to progress and literally change the way people drive, a diverse range of advanced vehicle technologies will be required. With its commitment to small fuel-efficient cars, biofuels, hybrids and future electric-drive vehicles, General Motors will provide consumers with more green choices that meet all their driving needs.
