Teaming up with Nissan North America, SunPower Corp. now has the opportunity to promote its residential solar power charger with Nissan LEAF buyers.
According to Brendan Jones, director of the Nissan LEAF marketing and sales strategy for North America, a 2.5-kilowatt solar panel could provide enough electricity for a Nissan LEAF to travel approximately 10,000 miles (or 16,100 kilometres) per year.
The main advantage of such a system is that LEAF owners can recharge their car without upping their electricity bill.
In addition, the truly eco-minded among us can rest easy knowing their Nissan LEAF is as green as they come: in some areas, electricity is produced from polluting sources such as coal-fired power plants.
Today’s announcement marks SunPower Corp.’s second incursion into the world of electric vehicles. Earlier this year, the company signed a similar deal with Ford regarding their electric Focus.
