Milliken & Company, one of the largest privately-held textile and chemical manufacturers in the world, announced the launch and commercial availability of YES Essentials Active Odor Control, a technology innovation designed to actively reduce all cabin odors that spread though the ventilating system, including volatile organic compounds (VOC) as well as any nuisance odors (cigarette smoke, pet and food odors, etc.).
VOC levels in cars can vary. In some instances, drivers and passengers are subjected to toxic emissions that are several times above safety limits. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short and long-term adverse health effects -- from eye, nose and throat irritation to liver, kidney and central nervous system damage. Some VOCs are even suspected or known to cause cancer.
As a catalyst-based technology, Active Odor Control will reduce odors during the entire life of the seat fabric. OEMs already offer the product as an option for existing vehicles. Milliken promises that it will also be made available for new vehicles with ship dates of June 2008 or later.
