The all-new 2015 Volvo XC90, set to launch in a few months, will offer an unrivalled combination of power and clean operation, the company says. Expect up to 400 horsepower and CO2 emissions of around 60 g/km — an unprecedented ratio in the SUV segment.

“There are no compromises when you drive an all-new XC90,” said Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research and Development of Volvo Car Group. “In the past you could either have power or low CO2 emissions. But with the all-new XC90 you can have both.”

All of this is made possible by a range of new Drive-E engine options (both diesel and gasoline), which provide an outstanding combination of performance and fuel efficiency. They will gradually find their way across the entire Volvo lineup.

The plug-in hybrid variant of the 2015 Volvo XC90 combines a 2.0L, 4-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged Drive-E gasoline engine (which powers the front wheels) with an 80-horsepower electric motor (which drives the rear wheels).

Meanwhile, the D5 twin-turbo diesel engine produces 225 horsepower, and the D4 turbo diesel engine is rated at 190 horsepower. On the other hand, the gasoline-powered T6 is both supercharged and turbocharged, delivering 320 horsepower, and the T5 turbo engine generates 254 horsepower.

The exact availability of these engines will be announced by Volvo at a later date.
