3rd place: Infiniti G35x (78.1%)

The least expensive of the bunch, the sporty G35x seems inspired more by BMW than by Mercedes-Benz. The sublime 3.5-liter V6 is the most aggressive engine of the group and the most powerful, with 306 horsepower. Performance-wise, the Infiniti gave the BMW a run for its money.

Visually, the G35x looks like the biggest car of our quartet, aided by its voluptuous and fluid shape, but it's an optical illusion; its dimensions are actually a few millimetres' reach from the Cadillac.

Aboard the Infiniti, it feels like the lightest of the four sedans, and remains predictable even when it's starting to skid. It's the most well-balanced of the four and the most manoeuvrable with the traction and stability control systems deactivated. However, they are too intrusive when they're turned on, and mess up the driving experience a bit.

The steering is of surgical precision, which is good for spirited driving. But under normal conditions, on the highway for example, the car is darty and we must constantly correct the steering wheel to keep the G35x in a straight line.

We appreciated the luxurious cockpit. The switchgear is the most user-friendly, although some are hard to reach; the power-seat buttons are difficult to access because there's no room to slide our hand between the seat and the door. We really like that the instrument pod tilts with the steering wheel, and beside from raging engine sounds, the cabin is quiet.

Rear-seat passengers aren't as spoiled, however. There is not much room, and getting out of the car from the back seat requires a little bending and flexing. As for the trunk, it's roomy but its cutout is narrow, and the seatback doesn't fold down.

"For the price, the G35x has a lot to offer. It needs a little tweaking here and there, but it has nothing to envy of the Germans who have been building this type of car for decades." - Michel Deslauriers
