Dyson Racing has gone through a range of emotions so far this season in the Grand-Am Rolex Series. This time, luck and joy awaited them as they finally took the lucky win the where looking for, in Mid-Ohio.

And it wasn’t an easy win! Chris Dyson (Guy Smith) held off Simon Pagenaud by only 0.506 seconds at the finish line, resisting to every bits of pressure the driver imposed to his full mirrors.

Clint Fields did most of the lead-job by dominating the first two hours for the race, Dyson only securing the lead of the last 24 laps.

In fact, they owe victory to a lucky call in the pits as the second caution period went out exactly at the very moment the car was exiting the pits – before the red – forcing the Patrón Racing car to wait another three laps before pitting.

Pagenaud and Davis Brabham took the runner-up spot, maintaining their championship lead. Tomy Drissi and Bryan Willman completed the LMP podium, fourth overall.

In GT class, Jaime Melo and Gimmi Bruni took victory on board their Ferrari F430 GT. It was the team’s first victory in Mid-Ohio. They can thank the reserve fuel pump for saving a race that once seemed lost when Melo fell to sixth after the failure of the primary system.

Olivier Gavin (Beretta) took the second spot, 0.583 seconds after his lucky rival. Rahal Letterman Racing’s BMW M3 GTs followed, Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner taking third place finish.

Christophe Bouchut and Scott Tucker (third overall) won the LMP Challenge, Gunnar Jeannette and Elton Julian taking third place finish, Luis Diaz and Ricardo Gonzalez also having the best of them. Tucker retains his lead in the championship.

In GTC, Tim Pappas and Jeroen Bleekemolen win a third race in four entries on board of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. It was an important race for the driver who went from deap down to first after an early contact. They now lead the championship.

James Sofronas and Bret Curtis were second, 0.247 seconds ahead of Bill Sweedler and Romeo Kapudija.

The next round of the American Le Mans Series will run on August 22.
