Instructor-intensive training enhances confidence
With each instructor’s different background, you’ll wind up with a lot of pointers, perspective and know-how as tires squeal, brake pads vaporize and redline is visited repeatedly. Full-throttle acceleration is possible for 10 or 12 seconds at a time, and the cars are pushed well into the driving style they’re engineered for. It’s a hell of a joy-ride – as much as a valuable learning experience.

Of course, it’s not all about high-speed maneuvers, picking off apexes and blasting lusty exhaust noises from the tailpipes. Every moment spent managing a vehicle’s weight, brakes, balance and power makes drivers more confident and safe. Skills learned on the track are easily applied to real-world situations, too.

Confidence is key here – and track time in a high-powered car can create plenty of it. After all, every moment spent at a vehicle’s limits on a track will make drivers more comfortable should an emergency require them to visit said limits in real life. Facing a sudden and dangerous obstacle? Knowing how to safely evade it can prevent you writing off your new ride, or worse. That’s pretty priceless, in a way.

Mercedes and AMG offer numerous driving courses, ranging from $400 to $4,000. More information is available on the automaker’s website.
