Canadian Jacques Villeneuve finally climbed on the podium of a race of the Andros Trophy ice racing series in Europe this season, finishing third in Lans-en-Vercors, France.
However, Jean Philippe Dayraut was too strong. On this fast circuit, the driver of the No. 1 MINI dominated his rivals, including Olivier Panis (Skoda), Alain Prost (Dacia) and Benjamin Riviere (private Skoda).
The reigning series champion won all his qualifying heats plus the final, en route to the overall victory.
Teammates Panis and Villeneuve claimed second and third, and proved that the Oreca-built Fabia can be highly performant when the track conditions are icy.
Villeneuve was quick all day long. He qualified 8th and took 4th place in the first qualifying heat. He finished third in the second qualifying race, crossing the line in front of Prost and Franck Lagorce (Skoda).
In the grand finale, he played his role to perfection, following his teammate Panis to the line and protecting him from the attacks of his rivals.
