An Apple employee recently sent an anonymous email to Business Insider claiming that the company intends to take a shot at Tesla and its Model S. As it turns out, the strange-looking minivan that were spotted in San Francisco and New York last week really are part of a vehicle development program at Apple.

According to this person, "Apple's latest project is too exciting to pass up. It will change the landscape and give Tesla a run for its money."

Could it be an electric vehicle? A new iPhone-to-car connectivity system? Whatever it is, that would explain the ongoing tests conducted by Apple.

By the way, Apple has recruited some 50 Tesla employees including engineers specialized in mechanics and robotics. That doesn't seem to faze Elon Musk, however, since reports indicate that Tesla has hired 150 people away from the tech giant over the years.
