A survey of 600 American parents who drive while transporting a child under the age of 12 shows that they may not text as much as teenagers (10% vs. 44.5%), but display many other distracting behaviours.

According to Dr. Michelle Macy of the University of Michigan, around 70% of parents said they had taken or placed a call with kids in the car during the past month.

What about other distractions? Self grooming was almost as common as taking phone calls, with nearly seven out of ten parents confessing they had engaged in it. Others pointed at trying to figure out directions, switching the music in their audio systems, attending to children, eating, and reaching for an object.
