Aston Martin has just announced that it will be reviving the long-forgotten Lagonda brand.

Lagonda is a British company founded in 1906 by the American Wilbur Gunn. It was bought by Aston Martin in 1947, after which the inline, 6-cylinder engine manufactured by Lagonda was introduced into several Aston Martin models, including the 1950 DB2 and DB3. Both manufacturers worked together until 1979.

The Aston Martin Lagonda ceased production in 1979 and was the last car built under the Lagonda name, which was quickly forgotten. Aston Martin has now decided to resuscitate it.

The Lagonda brand will be used to develop unique cars emphasizing luxury, by which they will distinguish themselves from the traditionally sporty Aston Martins. Both brands are easily recognizable by their unique designs.

In 2009, a Lagonda concept car will be presented to the general public. A production model should hit the market in 2012. Lagonda vehicles are commercialized in over 100 countries worldwide.
