Audi has big plans for its future assembly plant in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico. Project manager Mattias Rust said in the employee newspaper Audimobil that construction will begin in 2014 and production in May 2016. About 3,800 people will work there.

The German automaker is hoping to build approximately 150,000 units of its Q5 crossover annually.

Mexican employees will start training later in 2013 at Audi's Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm plants in Europe. Others from Germany will also help with the launch in Mexico, some for up to five years.
