In the course of the 6th race of the Quebec Hankook Touring championship, auto123's in-house racer, Nigel Heron and his race-prepped 1997 Acura Integra, continued their fight for the title of rookie of the year by finishing 7th overall and by besting all others first-years at the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville Ontario.

Qualifying 8th on Saturday August 26th, Nigel lost a confidence-shaking 3 positions when the green flag dropped on the following Sunday. He managed to fight the field and recapture 4 positions in the course of the race. By the end, he found himself in the 7th spot. Nigel explains what happened shortly after the start: "My car's power disadvantage cost me a few positions early on, but the handling of the car was phenomenal and I was able to carry much more speed into the corners than some of my competitors. Thanks to the car's amazing set-up, I was able to fight my way back up"

As the season winds down, Nigel takes a moment to thank his major

sponsors and members of his rock-solid pit crew: "I would like to thank my partners auto123.com, Pièces d'Auto Rive Sud, Jon Nichols Motorsports, Emperor Creations and my crew: Steven, Jay, Matt, Kosta and my father. Because of their hard work and support, I had a great car this weekend. If you look at the standings, everyone ahead of me has rented cars (purpose-built race cars managed and maintained by a professional group). This says a lot for the time and effort that our team has put into the car this summer!! We are still lacking in horsepower but the Integra's reliability is making all the difference."

Following the great result of the last event, Nigel has now hoisted himself in fifth position in the overall standings. This puts him ahead of Etienne

Chabot by only 18 points. It is still too close to pre-emptively declare one of the racers as rookie of the year for the 2006 season but we a rooting for our Nigel.

The next and final event will be a 2-race weekend at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant on September 23rd and 24th.
