2008 will mark the return of the GT model and AWD for the Pontiac Vibe. The Toyota Matrix-based vehicle will soon re-emerge as a 2009 model, bringing with it a level of athletic design, boosted performance and everyday versatility uncommon in the price range, says Pontiac.

The new look features trademark Pontiac styling elements while sharpening the appearance and bringing out a newfound confidence and poise. Early photos show large chrome wheels, fog-lamps and an aggressive front bumper treatment. In the rear, a lower splitter, high-mounted spoiler and clear taillamps suggest a sporty and adventurous demeanor.

The bright and high-tech looking interior features metallic accents and improved panel gap tolerances. Front active headrests are installed, and the drivers seat is six-way adjustable for maximum comfort. There's even a household power outlet installed to help recharge battery powered items on the go.

There's more power for the new model too, with the return of a high-performance engine and GT model. The base engine is a 1.8 litre mill which musters 132 horsepower and is attached to a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. Optionally available is a 2.4 litre dual-cam engine with 158 horsepower that also comes with an automatic or manual gearbox. The larger engine is standard on the GT model and is the only engine available for customers after AWD.

Look for the new Vibe in early 2008.
