Marking the 30th anniversary of the BMW M1 super sports car, BMW Group Design decided to look to the past for inspiration for the future. Showcased as part of the Concorso d'Eleganza 2008, the M1 Homage concept builds off of the history of two important BMW models of the past.
The original race-track ready M1 was designed by Giorgio Guigiaro, and led to the creation of the ultra-high-tech BMW Turbo concept car. These two machines form the basis for the striking new M1 Homage Concept.
It represents a contemporary take on a mid-engine design used by the original machine. BMW says that the concept showcases emotional design and technology and integrates it into the overall asthetics of the vehicle, blending passion, reason and performance into one very unique package.
The new concept displays some of the styling cues found on the original, including its special liquid orange paint, hidden headlamps, twin logos and hood-vents.
