The Chinese onslaught continues.
The Chinese onslaught continues.

For the first time in the show's 77-year history, a Chinese automaker is displaying its line-up for the public. Brilliance China Auto, a partner of well-heeled German luxury car firm BMW, is planning on selling nearly 160,000 new sedans in Europe within the next five years. Bremen-based HSO Motors Europe, a German car importing company, will be the broker in charge of distributing and selling Brilliance's Zhonghua (BS6) 2.0 and 2.4 litre sedans. HSO Motors is credited with successfully launching Hyundai in Europe in the early 90s. It only makes sense then that they have been chosen to inaugurate the Chinese revolution in Europe.

Brilliance Zhonghua (BS6)

The BS6 was originally designed by famed leading Italian styling house Giugiaro. With this in mind, the car has the necessary looks but it falls short when it comes to safety features and powertrains. Basic cars are powered by a 122 hp 2.0-litre 16v engine. The top-of-the-line Deluxe editions use a 130hp 2.4L 4-cylinder. Both engines are sourced from Mitsubishi. A 5-speed manual transmission will be attached to both motors. Standard features include A/C, power windows and locks with remote key-fob, parking assist, alloy wheels and an 8-speaker CD audio system.

For 2007, Brilliance plans to find 15,000 new buyers. They hope that the number will increase to 75,000 units per year by 2010-2011. In China, Brilliance sold over 210,000 in 2006. They forecast over 300,000 sales in 2007 and by 2010, 20% of their total production will be exported.

The FWD BS6 sedan has a starting price of 20,000 euros.
