The Buick brand brings to mind images of American luxury motoring with a rich history dating back generations. The popular brand's high-value luxury proposition is selling strongly outside of its home country- and Buick is experiencing much success in the Chinese market.

Their Invicta concept car is a four-door mid-size sedan that presents a bold direction for the brand in its two most important markets- America and China. The car, named from the Latin word for 'invincible', takes styling cues from other Buick concepts like the 2004 Velite convertible and striking 2007 Riviera coupe.

The concept is powered by a direct-injection turbocharged engine- a Buick first. Output is rated at 250 horsepower and 220 lb.-ft of torque, while a six-speed automatic is employed for maximum fuel efficiency.

The Invicta was designed by both American and Chinese GM studios, and is intended to show that the brand can meet a variety of expectations in a single machine. "Buick's global appeal created an opportunity for GM Design Centers to elevate our collaboration to new levels. Using our virtual reality centers in Warren and Shanghai, designers fused the best ideas from both cultures during the development of the Invicta," said Edward T. Welburn, VP of General Motors Global Design.

"The result will set a new design standard for Buick, and it couldn't have been achieved by one studio working in isolation. The Invicta represents another significant design milestone in Buick's history."
