Today, Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) celebrated yet another milestone in its continuing growth in Canada. The occasion was thestart of mass production of the all new 2003 Honda Pilot, an 8 passengerSports Utility Vehicle. This vehicle is a completely new addition to the Hondaproduct line-up. This is a significant event as it marks the third time that HCM has beenthe lead plant in launching products that are totally new for Honda, productsthat established Honda in the Light Truck Market. Today's event alsoreinforced the efficiency and flexibility of Honda's "New ManufacturingSystem" as the same line will produce the Honda Odyssey, the new Honda Pilotand the Acura MDX.
Mr. Koichi Amemiya, Executive Vice President and Representative Directorof the Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Chief Operating Officer of North America notedthat "Today represents another step in Honda's continuing commitment to NorthAmerica, and in particular, to Canada. Our investment in Canada now exceeds1.7 Billion Dollars, our direct employment is over 4200 associates and we areassisted in our parts supply by more than 50 Canadian suppliers".
