The Le Mirage Concours d’Elegance had the honour of hosting a unique car, the 1933 Ambassador Eight Series 1193. Of only three units ever produced in the convertible version, it is the only one left in the world.

While the sedan versions of the Ambassador-Eight were available with a 133- or 142-inch wheelbase, the cabrio variant was only offered with a wheelbase of 123 inches.

The 1193 series V8 engine kicks out 125 hp, dispatched to the rear wheels via a three-speed transmission. The vehicle’s total mass exceeds 2.25 tons.

Completely restored by the Dale Adams shop in Ohio, the car has regained its former flair. It boasts an impressive pedigree. In 1994, it earned the highest honours at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, taking home the first President’s Cup and as well as First Prize. It also garnered the AACA’s National Senior and Grand National awards. It accumulated various awards at the Amelia Island Concours, the Eastern United States Concours and the Greenwich Concours.

Presented by collector Vic Tremblay, it was one of the most impressive pieces of the Mirage event. He had to travel all the way to Pennsylvania to find this little jewel.

A great example of American innovation
In the early 1890s, Charles W. Nash was hired by the Flint Road Cart Company owned by William C. Durant. Just five years later, he was appointed manager of the Durant-Dort Carriage Company. In 1908 Durant founded General Motors after a merger with Buick, and in 1910 Charles W. Nash was appointed head of the Buick division. Two years after his rise to Buick he was named president of GM.

A disagreement put an end to the honeymoon between the two men in 1916. Nash quit and headed for Kenosha, Wisconsin. Together with business partner George Mason he bought the Thomas J. Jeffrey Company for nine million dollars, which at the time produced the Ramblers and Jeffreys.
