Style, value and great big power combine for a tremendously badass ride
They say that good things come to those who wait--so for Dodge's fans, the re-incarnated Challenger must have felt like a lifetime coming. Initial deposits saw thousands sell before production began, allowing a lucky few to take part in what will arguably be the most influential musclecar re-launch in history.

This could well be simply the coolest machine on the road for the money.

In 2008, Challengers only came in SRT8 500 guise with two colors and an automatic transmission. Just months after the Challenger's re-release, the '09 model year sees it sold as a complete lineup with plenty of options.

Challenger SRT8 by the numbers
Around $49,000 gets you 6.1 litres, 8 cylinders and 425 horses sent to the two rear wheels. Styling packs 110 percent bad attitude, and to the rejoice of enthusiasts the world over, Challenger represents the first SRT8 car with 3 pedals and a six-speed shifter. The performance gods are smiling indeed.

If looks could kill...
Challenger's style packs more evil than your average horror-movie villain, complete with xenon lights, a low-brow fascia and a deep, aggressive bumper spoiler with integrated ducting. The deliciously retro side and rear profiles scream that you're up to no good, especially finished in metallic black and rolling on aluminum twenties.

"Bad to the Bone" plays from nearby stereos whenever Challenger approaches, and if there was an apocalypse tomorrow, those in charge would almost definitely be driving these out of the flaming skies.

An easygoing beast
For all its visual malevolence, Challenger is a surprisingly easygoing machine to live with. This big comfy coupe has two large doors with wide apertures, making it fairly easy to enter and exit. Access to the rear-seat is typically inconvenient, though rear passengers get a reading light, comfortable accommodations and above-adequate room once settled. Four adults can travel in comfort, with mileage averaging about 15 L/100 km, combined.
