I'm in love with this Parisienne
From the moment I laid eyes on the first pics of the Mégane RS in late 2009, I was smitten. I'm a sucker for anything with a hatch, wagon or otherwise, but when you throw in big wheels, a spoiler, large brakes, lots of power and a sumptuously sculpted body, my juice begin to flow. Only shortcoming is AWD, as far as I'm concerned, but I can certainly forgive Renault.

The RS is the ultimate Mégane. Sleek and stylish to begin with, this compact car is available in four different body-types; 3 and 5-door hatchbacks, a wagon and a coupe-convertible. The RS can only be had as a 3-door hatch.

RS, as you may have guessed, stands for Renault Sport, a pair a words that carries much weight in the motorsports World. You will therefore understand the Mégane RS is as special as it is.

Performance always begins with a powertrain. The RS is motivated by a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder that pumps out 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Channelled to the front wheels by good-old a 6-speed manual gearbox, the RS will sprint to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, according to Renault.

The car's dynamic sweeping lines are well complimented by the black and silver 19' wheels.

Covered in Racing Yellow, a very Renault Sport shade, the black front fascia is evermore prominent. The slightly less than subtle rear hatch-mounted spoiler is matched by design to a rear diffuser found below the bumper, where the oversized centre-located tailpipe is. Perhaps the most distinctive aesthetic elements are the fins situated at the bottom of the doors; their function seems to be to funnel air over and around the large flared fenders. Whether or not that be the case, they do fit the car nicely.

Other enhancements that are included in the RS are some fantastic-looking Recaro seats that are reminiscent of those found in the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO. Once aboard, the driver (I can only hope that that will be I some day) is faced with a grippy steering wheel stitched in yellow and a very apropos yellow-back tachometer.

The Mégane RS is Renault's Volkswagen Golf R, Subaru's WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer EVO. If the car's performance and road manners match its stance and presence, the RS must be a blast to drive!
