At a time when consumers are giving the cold shoulder to diesel cars and wagons, BMW is toying with the idea of launching two such versions of the 2012 3 Series in North America.
This highly surprising information does, however, fly in the face of what BMW’s sales and marketing director, Ian Robertson, is saying.
He stated yesterday that only a major shift in consumer behaviour would ensure the commercial success of the Touring.
It seems more likely that the automaker will follow the evolution of the market before taking such a plunge. Logically, Europe (where the versions will first be released) will serve as a testing ground to get a feel for North American interest.
So no one can say for sure when or if these variants of the 3 Series will ever grace our dealerships.
