General Motors has announced that the new 2012 Buick Regal will feature the eAssist system, reducing fuel consumption by 25% compared to the 2011 version powered by the four-cylinder mill coupled with the six-speed transmission.

Until now, only the 2012 Buick LaCrosse had been announced with eAssist. The system is comprised of a lithium-ion battery, an electric motor/generator and regenerative braking that support a four-cylinder, 2.4-litre mill and six-speed automatic transmission.

And combined with improved aerodynamics, the Regal should present fuel economy ratings of 9.05 L / 100 km in the city and 6.36 L / 100 km on the highway, according to the manufacturer.

The 2012 Regal eAssist comes with light, 17-inch wheels wrapped in low rolling resistance tires, an ECO gauge helping drivers reduce their consumption and several other features currently offered on the other versions.

GM hadn’t confirmed pricing at the time of writing, but did mention that the model will hit dealerships some time this fall.
