World-renowned race car designer Gian Paolo Dallara is currently working to develop his own road-going sports car and planning a debut within 12 to 18 months.

Dallara says that the future two-seater will have the spirit of the Lotus Seven, a carbon fibre chassis and a rear-mounted engine to deliver Lotus Exige levels of performance. Annual production will be limited to about 100 units, each one to be sold for 35,000 to 45,000 euros ($46,800 to $60,000).

It goes without saying that the car's design and marketing strategy are far from completed, yet despite the lack of information about the model, it appears that pre-orders have already been placed.

No doubt Dallara's strong reputation has a lot to do with it. The man is personally responsible for the Lamborghini Muira and De Tomaso Pantera. He also participated in the design and development of many recent road cars including the Maserati MC-12 and Bugatti Veyron.
