Mass production automobile manufacturers have left Quebec a number of years ago but craftsmen and specialty builders are thankfully still around. Among those, the name Allard is again making headlines on the occasion of the delivery of the exclusive Allard J2X MkII to its happy US owner who showed up at the recent Larz Anderson Auto Museum British Car Exhibit, in Brookline, Massachusetts. The fabulous Allard J2X MkII is a continuation of the British 1953 Allard which led Carroll Shelby to create the now legendary Shelby Cobra.

Allard Motor Works was founded some ten years ago by Montrealer Roger Allard (the name similarity is a total coincidence) whose ambition was to re-create this mythical car on a sound modern basis while keeping its stunning retro look.

Modern chassis and mechanicals are well hidden below the sculpted body of the Allard J2X MkII that faithfully renders the look of the original 1953 car, all the way to its side-mounted spare wheel.

Ten years of sustained efforts and sacrifices have led to the production of the fire-red Allard J2X number 002 hand-built to the client’s specifications in the Allard Motor Works plant in Boucherville. All cars produced are included in the official Allard Registry, based in London, England.

In its efforts to distribute the car to a wider market, Allard Motor Works has also created Allard West, in Santa Monica, California, in cooperation with Morgan West, US distributor of the famed Morgan brand. This will make the Allard available to the “Hollywood crowd” and the likes of Jay Leno who was so impressed with the car that he produced a video featuring Allard J2X number 001 that can be seen on www.jaylenosgarage.com.
