Press release
Woodcliff Lake, NJ - March 31, 2009... Finding new ways to expand the boundaries of what's possible with existing designs is the singular purpose of the craftsmen at BMW M. The modern legacy of BMW M began in 1985 when engineers placed the race-bred engine from the M1 supercar into the BMW 5 Series sedan and created the first BMW M5. The M5 was a sedan with power, precision, and linear control never before imaginable. In New York, BMW M will introduce the next milestone in its illustrious history: the BMW X6 M. The X6 M will utilize several new engine, drivetrain, and suspension technologies to transform the world's first Sports Activity Coupe into a BMW M product.
The BMW X6 M will share the spotlight at the New York International Auto Show with an array of models including the all-new Z4 Roadster and the fifth-generation of the flagship 7 Series. Other featured vehicles will be the Advanced Diesels and the freshly updated 2010 BMW 5 Series and 6 Series models.
