Toronto, ON - CAW President Ken Lewenza and CUPW President Denis Lemelin will issue a joint statement tomorrow, Friday May 8 at a press conference in Windsor, Ontario calling on Canada Post Corporation to ensure all new vehicles expected to be purchased by the national postal service are made in Canada.

Canada Post Corporation (a national crown corporation) is expected to purchase anywhere from 4500-5500 new vehicles to assist in a program to motorize letter carrier operations in Canada.

Canada Post is in the process of developing criteria to purchase these vehicles. Only one that is being tested is currently assembled in Canada: the Chrysler Town & Country minivan, built in Windsor, Ontario.

Lewenza and Lemelin will be joined by CAW Local 444 President Rick Laporte and CUPW Windsor Local President John Vigneaux.
