Some people were born to revolutionize the world as we know it. George Parker is definitely one of them. Way back in 1985, he drew on paper his vision of the car of the future, and 25 years later, he's on the verge of making it a reality with the help of his enthusiastic crew in Maple Ridge, B.C.

Together, they will participate in the Automotive X PRIZE competition, in which ingenious craftsmen like Mr. Parker build mass production-ready vehicles capable of achieving 100 mpg (2.35 L/100 km). The winner receives a $10 million prize.

Their entry in the competition is called eVaro. Using 288 lithium-ion batteries backed by regenerative technologies, this unique machine was designed to perform like any other sports car.

The result is nothing short of phenomenal. The eVaro, which is entirely hand-built using layers of ultra-lightweight materials like foam, fibreglass and carbon fibre, can reach a top speed of 210 km/h and travel 700 kilometres with a full battery pack and fuel tank, the latter feeding a four-cylinder engine. Output is rated at 400 horsepower, while maximum torque amounts to an otherworldly 1,400 lb-ft!

If that sounds like your kind of car – and TV show – don't miss your chance to support George Parker and his team on Discovery Channel Canada's ''X-CARS'', starting January 6th, 2011, at 8pm ET.
