The Rolls-Royce Phantom III offered at Mercedes-Benz World is the first PIII sold in North-America. It was seen in a car chase battling against a Bentley in the 2006 Guillermo del Toro film, “Pan’s Labyrinth”. The PIII was Rolls-Royce’s first model with independent front suspension.

A total of 24 are beleived to have been sold to American buyers in the 30s. This one (chassis no.3 AZ 190) was coachworked by New York based J.S. Inskip Inc. Bonhams experts rate its condition as “fantastic” and estimate its value between CDN$ 100,000 and CDN$ 110,000.

Classics of the Stars!
Nick Mason’s 1934 Lagonda M45 Tourer has had five owners since new. This 4 1⁄2-Litre model with open four-seater body was built by Vanden Plas. It was immaculately restored by the Pink Floyd drummer, a prominent collector who bought it in 1991. It is valued at around CDN$ 175,000 and CDN$ 220,000.

As for Elvis Presley’s Mercedes-Benz 600, it has already attracted a pre-sale estimate of CDN$ 230,000 to CDN$ 320,000. This 600 was one of two the “King of Rock and Roll” owned for two years before offering as gift to a friend, James Leroy Robertson.

Other highlights among the 80 automobiles or so registered at this auction include: a 1964 Maserati 3500GTI Coupé (estimate of CDN$ 100,000–120,000); a 2000 Ferrari 550 GTZ (one of 5 built by Zagato and the only one with right hand drive); a 1964 AC Cobra (estimate CDN$ 400,000–475,000); a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing (estimate CDN$ 550,000–625,000); a 1937 SS100 Jaguar 2 1⁄2-Litre Roadster (estimate CDN$ 325,000–360,000); and a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 MK1 Volante Cabriolet (estimate CDN$ 315,000–470,000). Around 400 lots of automobilia (books, archives photos, sales brochures, radiator mascots from Lalique and from Mercier, etc.) will also be offered to bidders.
