After 17 years at BMW's Design department, Chris Bangle decided to pass the torch to his longtime colleague Adrian van Hooydonk. Responsible for the modern-day image of BMW products, including the 1-, 3-, 5-, 6- and 7-Series, the Z3, Z4 and Z8 as well as the X3, X5 and X6, he also worked on the development of the new MINI, some Rolls-Royce models and a few innovative motorcycle concepts.
The American-born Bangle, 52, had been in charge of design operations at BMW since 1992. After starting his career in the automobile with Adam Opel AG, he joined Fiat in 1985. Their association ended abruptly a few years later and Bangle turned to the legendary Bavarian automaker.
Adrian van Hooydonk, now 44, served as Bangle's right-hand man throughout his entire stay at BMW. The former is described by the latter as a true professional.
Hooydonk will supervise design for BMW, Rolls-Royce and MINI.
