The economic situation being what it is, North American consumers are having more trouble obtaining credit for major purchases such as real estate or vehicles. The effect of the lack credit is visible in the American auto industry, more specifically at Chrysler where sales have dropped between 20 and 25%.

Following in General Motors' footsteps, which will be closing 20 of its production plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico for the entire month of January 2009, Chrysler LLC has announced that it will be revising its production schedule. The American automaker hopes to satisfy a dramatically falling demand, as buyers are unable to obtain credit.

Chrysler LLC will cease all operations from the end of the day of December 19, 2008. In theory, all the employees of the American giant will be on forced holiday for a month until January 19, 2009. Until then, we'll have to wait and see what Congress decides.
