A full display of hot new Chevrolets awaits visitors at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. GM indeed chose to introduce a number of exciting models in its own backyard.

Chevrolet Spark

Widely known and seen across Europe, the Spark finally makes its American debut as a production model. This highly-modern subcompact car targets first-time and entry-level buyers. Bright colours and a host of cool accessories are on the menu. The interior even offers body-coloured accents.

The instruments stick out from the dash and over the steering column for a unique aftermarket look.

As for styling, the Spark is awfully similar to the concepts shown in previous auto shows. Mechanically, it will benefit from a fully-revised four-cylinder engine.

Chevrolet Camaro Convertible
The first one had been announced a while ago, so it wasn’t really a surprise. Building on the success of the coupe, the Camaro Convertible with soft top is set to hit the streets this summer. Base and RS models will be available, but no SS – at least for now. Little has changed on the car aside from the stylish top that folds away in less than 20 seconds.

Chevrolet Aveo

New design, new image – the Aveo gets bigger and bolder for 2011. In fact, it moves up from subcompacts to compacts. The fresh exterior and interior styling boasts the same level of fit and finish as the Spark, so expect about the same type of customers to be interested in the new Aveo. Even powertrains will be similarly based.

However, the Aveo will offer a five-door model (remarkably executed) and a four-door model (not as spectacular).

Chevrolet Orlando
The Orlando crossover, which shares its architecture with the new Cruze sedan, is designed to meet the needs of modern families. A small, efficient engine (four-cylinder Ecotec) and lots of room define this new Chevy product.

Once again, the design is highly reminiscent of the concept shown last year. This time, it’s an actual production model with seating for up to seven passengers, making the Orlando a future rival of compact minivans like the Mazda5 and Kia Rondo.

Chevrolet Malibu
A real surprise this year, the new and updated Malibu further highlights its visual connection with other members of the Chevy family. Actually, all the new models unveiled at the 2010 NAIAS share the same grille, prominent fascias and sharper lines.

The 2011 Malibu will carry over the current four- and six-cylinder engines as well as the FWD configuration. Styling is really what stands out the most, with German-style profiles and a Swedish-like rear section. The car is scheduled for market release later this year.
