At a press conference at Princeton University, Bill Ford, Jr., president of Ford, confirmed that a Mustang with an EcoBoost engine is in the works. Unfortunately, he didn’t add any details as to the timeline.

At first glance, introducing an EcoBoost Mustang seems very logical, as more and more manufacturers are calling on small displacement, turbocharged engines. Such a decision would allow consumers to benefit from high-performance yet fuel-efficient products, and the latter is weighing ever heavier on the scale.

If we play the prediction game, we can assume that the introduction of a turbocharged four-banger is highly unlikely. Though it would be considerably more fuel efficient, the Mustang would lose a good deal of its grunt.

Which makes the EcoBoost V6 the logical choice. Considering Ford’s offerings at the moment, it’s quite possible that said V6 would generate around 365 hp, 47 ponies more than the V6 motivating the base model, while showing admirable restraint at the pump.

This mill would also narrow the power gap with the GT variant to approximately 47 hp, thus giving the muscle car the upper hand, performance-wise, against the Camaro V6 and its 312-head stable.
