First, let's begin by noting that Honda and Honda Canada will remember the 2008-09 period as having been a rough one. With month-over-month and year-over-year sales having tumbled, in some cases up to 30%, the Japanese car maker is very happy to see that their numbers are on the rise.

The Honda Automobile Division reported October sales of 9,224 units, down 10% over last year. But, the Acura Division reported, for the same period, sales of 2,079 units, up 80% from 2008. The combined sales of 11,303 units are unchanged from last year which, for Honda, is a positive note.

In order to maintain what seems like momentum, Honda has wisely decided to lower the retail price of some of its major players including Canada's best-selling car, the Honda Civic.

The price reductions are as follows:

$1,000 - All Canadian-made 2010 Civic sedans and coupes, including
Civic Si models
$1,500 - All 2010 CR-V compact CUV models (2- and 4-wheel-drive models)
$1,000 - All 2010 Accord V-6 engine models (sedans and coupes)
$ 500 - All 2010 Accord 4-cylinder engine models (sedans and coupes)

This should create a positive impact on Honda's bottom line as some of their products remain some of the best picks in their respective categories. Honda has done its part. Now all Honda can do, is to wait and see how consumers respond.
