Infiniti recently launched its IPL line of products (Infiniti Performance Line) enabling its cars to compete with the high-performance versions of other automakers. There’s an ever more persistent rumour going around about an IPL version of the G Coupe powered by a 3.5-litre Mercedes AMG turbo engine that could generate about 400 hp in this application.
Currently, Infiniti’s G Coupe produces 330 hp. IPL gets that number up to 348, and improves the machine’s suspension and styling. For performance freaks, the eminently more powerful BMW M3 Coupe, with its 414 ponies, is much more interesting than the current Infiniti.
An IPL version of the M sedan is supposedly in the works, swapping the automaker’s mill for a 6.2-litre V8 turning out at least 500 ponies. Could there be a new war performance brewing between luxury automakers? Let’s hope so!
