Jaguar displayed an upcoming performance model in Detroit today, after photos of a test prototype have been swirling the Internet for months.
Jag's latest creation aims to put the British automaker's XF model into the realm of the high-performance premium sedan. The standard model is fitted with all the standard vents, openings and trim pieces expected of a high performance machine, alongside increased wheel and tailpipe diameters. The requisite sporty 'R' badge is fixed after the XF's name plaque, too.
2010 XFR power comes from a new, supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine with direct injection that develops 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic with paddle shifters is used to send power to the rear wheels. The 2010 XKR also gets the 510-hp engine.
Lower-end models also get powertrain upgrades, as the XF Premium, the new XF Portfolio and XK Portfolio versions get a naturally-aspirated version of the 5.0-litre V8, which produces 385 hp. base XF sedans keep the 300-hp, 4.2-litre V8.
For the XFR, the four doors, high power levels and styling upgrades would aim the latest go-fast Jaguar towards some of the high performance models from Audi, BMW and Mercedes--potentially with a horsepower advantage.
